Kilgore College Pedestrian Bridge
When the pedestrian bridge at Kilgore College, originally constructed in 1969, was irreparably damaged in May of 2019, it left a gaping hole in the community. Generations of students relied on the bridge to get them safely from the east and west campus areas, and the City of Kilgore had adopted this footpath above the highway as one of its iconic landmarks.
Some four years later, RLM has the honor of replacing this much needed passageway with a new and improved version. The new design is ADA compliant with elevators located in both the east and west towers. Perhaps just as important, the new bridge will be some 2+ foot higher than its predecessor, making it less of a hazard to semi-trucks and other oversized vehicles traveling down Highway 271 in Kilgore, Texas.
