Marshall ISD
Marshall, TX
RLM is teaming up again with education building design experts, Huckabee Architects, to build the New Marshall High School.
The 186,000 sq ft, two-story structure will feature classrooms, music and art rooms, library, administrative offices, a full service kitchen with food preparation and staging for hot foods, cafetorium, practice field with equipment storage, parking, and support drives.
Of special note for this project is the addition of a 1,400 person occupancy Tornado Shelter. Per Section 423 of the 2015 International Building Code (IBC), construction of new schools (up through high school) must have tornado shelters. The Tornado Shelter for the Marshall Junior High project was designed with load-bearing, reinforced concrete masonry walls with a composite steel beam and concrete slab over metal deck structural roof system. For more details on this new safety feature that has been incorporated into the design of this project, read "Tornado Shelters in Schools (Masonry Tornado Shelter Case Study: Marshall Junior High School, Marshall, TX)".
This project is part of the Marshall ISD Legacy 2017 Building Program totaling more than $100 million.
